So I've wanted to make a maxi skirt for about the longest time. I finally did!
I used this tutorial. It's super easy to follow! Yippee! I surged a rolled hem on the bottom instead of a double hem. The picture totally doesn't do it justice. And I had just gotten home from work, meaning tired old face and everything. Blah. Oh well. It's life. And of course I had to put two pictures cause I just couldn't decide which one was better.
And incase your wondering, I totally considered editing out my zits. I just thought- oh that'd make it look better. But then I went through this big debate in my head about how I HATE the magazine industry for the mere fact that they airbrush and photoshop every cover person so that they look like this amazing person and then of course it makes every normal person feel like WOAH- my face sure is blotchy! Even though that exact cover person has a blotchy face too, they just are photoshopped. So after my internal deliberation...I decided that's retarded. Even though I think I wouldn't mind doing it for something hanging on my WALL- why give in to the industry on my blog and possibly make someone think, "Wow her face sure is nice" when in reality, it's quite acne-infected. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with myself and I can tell you I am definitley working on the zit issue, I want them GONE! But the point is...I'm not going to be fake and look like I don't really look just to let others believe I have this perfect face. Not to say it'd be perfect without zits. You know what I mean. Right? Anyway. I'm pretty excited about my maxi skirt.

Oh Danielle. Your face is actually quite perfect. You always make me feel old and frumpled- but don't worry. It's not because of anything you're doing, or rubbing in my face. I just miss my more fashionable/young/stylish days! They're harder to come by now. And when I look at you, I'm reminded of them. Your zits will go away. Have you seen a dermatologist? Mine never went away 'till I was 24 and saw a dermatologist. And then it was like no problem. He prescribed something for me and voila! When I ran out of my cream, I just stopped having problems! Beware though. The first derm I went to YEARS before, screwed up my face and I literally have SCARS all over to prove it. He did nothing for me. LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOVE the skirt. Someone in my ward was wearing one and I just couldn't get over how much I loved it. I didn't know it was a "thing" now or that it had a name. I want one. So comfy and easy. Hopefully after the babe comes. But is it more of a summer thing? Even though it's long- it seems so summery. I love that you picked green instead of some boring color.
haha megan's so funny. and why the heck would you want to see a dermatologist after she says "the first one screwed up my face!" pahahha oh megan. Well Danielle, when I see you is all i think is- She is so freakin stylish, so skinny, so fit, so beautiful, has the best hair EVER, and is so pretty. So that's what I think of you! and I LOVE the maxi skirt!!!! I need to make one cause i have tons of stretch knits when i thought i was going to make knit shirts- GIVE ME A BREAK AMY WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!!! defintely make some maxi skirts! i'm so excited! I LOVE YOURS!!!!! and i love you!
Oh girlfriend one thing I totally understand is the acne thing. I'm with ya all the way. But you are so beautiful and you do NOT need anything photoshopped, so you made the right choice.
LOVE the skirt! It makes me want to get brave and try one. Good job!
That skirt looks REALLY expensive. It's beautiful and looks like it's really flowy.
Okay, I love your schpiel. : ) It's SOOO true. The other day I was passing Banana republic and they had this HUGE picture of a lady in the window, and you could see her pores! It made me so HAPPY that they didn't photoshop them out. yay!
Oh I LOVE this skirt!! It makes me feel motivated to make my own! Will I actually do it? Probably not (UGH) but I LOOOOOVE yours!!!! You are SOOO PRETTY!!!!!! No matter what! SO PRETTY!!!! Love you!!
Holy crap I just went to that girls blog and I want to make a bunch of her stuff! Man! I love how she doesn't have a pattern and just mocks things! Harder to explain, but I feel like that's easier to do and gets the creative juices flowing. That stripey dress? And the lace skirt! Oh man, I want those!
LOVE the skirt!!! I'm so impressed how you use your time. I guess I used to be like you, I want to be that way again!! I hope you bring it I want to see the hem. If you aren't going to bring it take a close up of the hem for me and email it to me. I admire you for wanting to be brave and real. I actually didn't notice the zits. Lizzie and I were just talking about how we tend to notice and focus on the thing that bugs us the most about ourselves. I'm proud of you for being yourself. I agree about the wall though. love you can't wait to see you soon!
Danielle, don't worry about your face. Whatever imperfections will go unnoticed with that beautiful smile. You probably weren't expecting a long line of comments about your face after you said you considered editing your skin, but I have to say something. What skin care are you using? I went natural and changed my skin care a couple different times and totally broke out. Now I am using Dermalogica. My skin is much better, now, but still not perfect of course. Anyway, I love your skirt! I totally want to make one of those! I've seen long skirts like that with stripes on them and absolutely loved them! Now that there is a tutorial to make them I'm going to have to! I'll have to talk to my sewing teacher about it. Love you! :)
good for you. and can't agree more about the mag industry. i always think that with the people that have babies and then are on the cover of a magazine, "how she lost her baby wait in 3 weeks!" it just makes me feel crappy and helpless. and then i saw this whole article with befores and afters...the same stars that have zits, and a gut, and cellulite. crazy. and seriously, you have the hottest bod of anyone i know. honest
Oh, I love a good maxi skirt, they are SO comfortable. That color is so pretty too, it looks really good with your dark hair. I wish I could just whip up projects like that!
sooo cute! I just bought a skirt very similar to this and thought I'd love to make like ten in different colors because it really can't be that hard, right? Good job crafty lady. love it.
